Who is the Retreat for?
The retreat is for women currently undergoing or who have completed treatment for ovarian cancer. We can accommodate thirty-five women who live in New England.
What are the facilities like?
Alnoba in Kensington, NH offers homey cabins and houses for overnight accommodations. The cabins are nestled in the woods, a short walking distance from the main gathering place. Each cabin has a living room, a screened porch, 3-4 bedrooms furnished mostly with 2 twin beds, and 2-4 shared bathrooms. The large building, where meals and other retreat activities take place, includes the main meeting room, gallery, state-of-the-art media room, meditation space, screened porch. and several outdoor seating areas. The grounds include walking paths, contemplative sitting places, and plenty of space for group activities.
What do participants do at the retreat?
The retreat combines recreation and relaxation through a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, art projects, entertainment, and free time. There is a variety of activities to choose from each day and may include a ropes course, light hiking, creative projects, yoga, massages, facials, dancing and singing. Participants are encouraged to take part in as many of these as they are up to-and everything at the retreat is optional. Participants are free to rest in their rooms or chat with new friends anytime. A licensed social worker is present and available for private and group discussions.
What food is provided?
All meals are included, and participants are encouraged to eat together in a family atmosphere. Additional beverages and snacks are available throughout the day. All the food offered at the retreat is plentiful, nutritious, and diet-responsive to the extent possible, with an emphasis on organic and locally-sourced produce. Please note specific dietary needs on the application form.
Medical Needs
Attendees must be able to care for their own medical needs while at the retreat. A nurse is available for minor first aid and supportive consultation if emergency assistance is required. Portsmouth Regional Hospital is a 10 minute drive away. There are several pharmacies located within a 10 to 15 minute drive.
